Lets talk about mistakes. They happen to all of us. They happen to the best of us. They simply happen. Here is this little list that I like to call the big 5.
This list contains 5 crucial points that you should remember when you make a mistake.
1 Do not assume that anyone knows you made a mistake.
2 Do not focus on any mistakes.
3 Try to cover up/fix mistakes as best and as fast as you can.
4 Ignore mistakes, pretend they never happened.
5 Try to relax and stay calm and keep playing.
You know when you make a mistake. You try not to make mistakes and of course you do not want to make mistakes, but sometimes they just happen and in live performance we often assume that everyone knows it. When in reality 98% of the time, no one knows except us.
Most of the time mistakes go right over the head of your audience. They don't have a clue that you made a mistake. But you assume they know and you start focusing on that silly little mistake and you may sometimes get to feeling somewhat nervous and the next thing you know, you make another one because you are focused on the mistake you made and not focused on what you should, which is what you are presently doing, where you are in the song and where you are going with the song.
